Susan McLeod Adams has loved to draw and paint as long as she can remember. She is a native of Georgia and resident of Covington since starting to Oxford College of Emory University in 1962. She married and raised her three daughters Jan, Jill, and Julie, in the historic Covington community. While her children were young, Susan was a stay-at-home mom. In her spare time she painted at her “home studio” which was the unfurnished living room. Even in the early days of her adult life she participated and sold her paintings at numerous art shows and festivals through out Georgia. As her children grew older, Susan began to pursue other artistic careers. Her eye for color and her creative ability led her to interior design. She worked as a designer for Mayfield’s for six years, and in 1986 she opened her own interior design business, “Susan’s House.” She worked from her home office until 1990 then expanded her business to include decorative accessories and moved Susan’s House to the Covington Square. “Opening my shop on the square was one of the most exciting times of my career.” Although she enjoyed her shop immensely, she longed to return to her first love of painting. In 1996 she sold her business and returned to her home art studio to seriously paint again.
Susan considers herself a “self taught” artist. However she has enjoyed instruction and art classes with many accomplished artist through the years. She continues to attend workshops and classes whenever possible to further her art education. Many of her paintings are in private collections and businesses in Georgia and elsewhere. Susan paints primarily with oil, but she also enjoys working with watercolors as well as other mediums.
Susan is one of the founding members of the Southern Heartland Art Gallery in Covington. She also teaches children and adult art classes from the Gallery as well as holding kid’s summer art camps at her home studio.

Susan is married to Buddy Adams and together they have five daughters and seven grandchildren.
